Did you know that firefighter clothing is subject to health and safety standards that assign them a maximum lifespan of 10 years? Have you ever wondered what happens to these uniforms at the end of their service life? Firebag MTL has found an original solution to honor the end of life of these garments that have protected our heroes for all these years. The company has found its identity by upcycling old firefighting gear into bags. The uniforms are used almost 100%, and the production also includes the recycling of fire hoses.
Beyond the product, the company sees a social responsibility in its mission. Used uniforms carry a human experience that gives them an emotional aspect. For Firebag MTL, the battle scars present on the garments are elements that personalize its products. Its bags appeal to those who embrace eco-responsibility, unique design, durability, and urban style.
Being close to its customers and organizing sales events at its workshop, Firebag MTL prioritizes order pickups at the workshop to minimize environmental impact. This makes the products more accessible to the target clientele by avoiding packaging and delivery.
As its production is entirely done locally, Firebag MTL faces challenges generated by a lack of manpower. Working with damaged materials requires specific skills, expertise that is becoming scarce. Furthermore, production management differs from traditional methods due to variable supply. Firebag MTL has been supported by PME Mtl to adapt its practices and structure in order to ensure the viability of the company.
Firebag MTL ensures the consistency of its supply with its circular economy program: '2 IN 2 OUT', which offers fire departments the management of firefighting waste materials. Monetary returns on the materials to be recovered are offered to manufacturers, retailers, and fire services.
Its objectives are to attract more participants to its "2 IN 2 OUT" program and to develop new markets, both in Canada and internationally. British Columbia, France, and Belgium are already markets reached by the company!
